Filipino VTuber fans have organized a community-driven fundraising effort to support those affected by Typhoon Gaemi (locally known as Carina), raising ₱53,000 (approximately $1,000) for the Tulong Kabataan Disaster Response Center. The initiative shows how online communities can respond quickly and meaningfully during times of crisis.
In the wake of the typhoon, local fan groups Moomin’ Manila, PH Starlights, and KFP Philippines came together under a single banner, HoloPro Fans PH, to launch a live charity auction. The online event took place on August 11, 2024, bringing together VTubers and cosplayers in a coordinated effort to raise funds for affected communities.
The project reflects the Filipino spirit of bayanihan, where individuals come together to help one another in times of need. Through their combined reach and engagement, both creators and fans contributed to spreading awareness and encouraging donations.
The event, titled “Beyond The Storm,” was streamed on the YouTube channel of Kitsui Akira (Kiichan), an independent VTuber known within the local community. Guest participants included members of the DayJobU agency such as Bebe Duck and Zestlemon, along with independent creators Maddie, Kira Omori, and ShioriPon, a practicing surgeon who also streams. Cosplayers Abbunny Patato and Michiko Takanashi also joined the fundraiser.
During the livestream, participants auctioned limited-edition hololive and HOLOSTARS merchandise donated by fellow fans. The format drew from the Philippines’ familiar live-selling style, helping maintain audience engagement while supporting the fundraising goal.
The fundraiser was organized and completed within two weeks of the typhoon’s impact. Proceeds are directed to the Tulong Kabataan Disaster Response Center to support ongoing relief efforts for affected families.
While the amount raised is relatively modest, the speed and coordination behind the initiative highlight how digital communities can mobilize support in practical ways. It also reflects the evolving role of VTuber communities in the Philippines, where entertainment platforms are increasingly used for social initiatives.
