Kim Chiu, our beloved “Chinita Princess,” made every Filipino proud by winning the Outstanding Asian Star Award at the Seoul International Drama Awards 2024. Her standout performance as Juliana Lualhati in the hit ABS-CBN series Linlang—also known as Deceit—earned her this honor. Fans rallied behind her through IdolChamp app voting from June 15 to July 14, 2024, giving her 65.03% of the votes over strong contenders from Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand.

The event took place on September 25, 2024, at Seoul’s Yeouido KBS Hall, a hub for Asian drama celebrations since 2005. Kim turned heads on the red carpet in a stunning peach gown by Filipino designer Francis Libiran. She shared her excitement on Instagram: “I’m in absolute disbelief and beyond grateful… It feels surreal, like a dream I haven’t quite woken up from.” A giant digital billboard of her Linlang character even lit up Seoul’s streets, showcasing Pinoy talent worldwide.

Up on stage, Kim’s voice trembled with emotion as she accepted the award. She dedicated it first to her late mentor, Dreamscape head Deo Endrinal, saying, “My boss, my mentor, and my dear friend,” who inspired her to always give her best. She also thanked her loyal fans, ABS-CBN and Star Magic teams, co-star Paulo Avelino, and director Jojo Saguin. Paulo posted a heartfelt “Congratulations” online, and Kim replied with her playful charm, sparking joy among fans everywhere.

Kim joined an elite group of winners, including Korea’s Byeon Woo-seok and Kim Hye-yoon from Lovely Runner, Malaysia’s Siti Saleha, Singapore’s Desmond Tan, Indonesia’s Ochi Rosdiana, and Thailand’s Win Metawin. As the second Filipina after Kathryn Bernardo in 2023—with Paulo Avelino and Bea Alonzo as fellow nominees—this victory highlights how Philippine dramas are captivating global audiences. Kim called it a “dream come true,” perfectly capturing that fierce Pinoy pride we all feel.
