Netflix Philippines has just released a spine-chilling trailer for its inaugural zombie feature, Outside, set to premiere on October 17. Directed by the talented Carlo Ledesma, known for his compelling storytelling in TV commercials and films, this psychological horror promises an intense viewing experience that delves deeper than just zombie action.
A Family’s Desperate Escape
The film centers around a family of four, led by the unstable patriarch, Francis (played by Sid Lucero). In an effort to escape the chaos of a devastating zombie outbreak, Francis takes his wife, Iris (portrayed by Beauty Gonzales), and their two sons, Josh (played by Marco Masa) and Lucas (featuring Aiden Tyler Patdu), to his secluded farmhouse in the province. Their journey is not only about physical survival but also about reclaiming a sense of normalcy amidst horror.

Tension Builds in the Trailer
The trailer opens with a haunting image of a battered car marked by a bloody handprint, a stark representation of the family’s traumatic experiences. As the scenes unfold, we see the family’s attempts to adapt to their new surroundings, alongside glimpses of Francis’s escalating paranoia. The emotional turmoil and psychological struggles they face add layers of depth to this gripping narrative.
A Unique Perspective on Survival
At the Netflix APAC Southeast Asia Showcase in Indonesia, director Carlo Ledesma shared that Outside is much more than a traditional zombie film. He describes it as a “terrifying psychological thriller” that focuses on family dynamics during a zombie apocalypse. “At its core, it’s a film about a family’s survival,” he emphasized, highlighting the emotional stakes involved.
Inspired by Personal Experiences
Carlo’s journey into the horror genre began with his found-footage film The Tunnel in 2011, followed by Sunod in 2019 and the horror-comedy short The Kapre. He considers Outside his most personal project, drawing inspiration from his upbringing in Negros and the feelings of isolation he experienced during the pandemic. It was during this time that the concept for the film began to materialize.

Get Ready for a Gripping Tale
As October approaches, Outside is poised to deliver a harrowing story of survival in a world plagued not only by the undead but also by the psychological scars of its characters. The film features a talented cast, including Enchong Dee and Joel Torre, ensuring that audiences are in for a captivating experience.
Prepare to be terrified when Outside premieres on Netflix this October!
