Netflix Philippines has released the official trailer for its first zombie feature film, “Outside,” which is set to premiere on October 17. Directed by Carlo Ledesma, the film blends psychological horror with survival drama, offering more than a typical zombie narrative.
A Family Seeking Refuge
The story follows a family of four led by Francis (Sid Lucero), a troubled father struggling to maintain control. As a zombie outbreak spreads, he brings his wife Iris (Beauty Gonzales) and their two sons, Josh (Marco Masa) and Lucas (Aiden Tyler Patdu), to a remote farmhouse in the province.
While the move is meant to ensure their safety, the family soon faces not only external threats but also growing emotional tension within the household.
Rising Psychological Tension
The trailer opens with a damaged car marked by a bloody handprint, hinting at the violence they have escaped. As the scenes progress, the family attempts to adjust to isolation, but Francis’s behavior becomes increasingly unstable.
This shift introduces a psychological layer to the film, where fear is driven not only by the undead but also by distrust and internal conflict.
More Than a Zombie Film
Speaking at the Netflix APAC Southeast Asia Showcase in Indonesia, director Carlo Ledesma described “Outside” as a psychological thriller centered on family dynamics.
“At its core, it’s about a family trying to survive,” he explained, emphasizing that the emotional struggles are as important as the external dangers.
Personal Inspiration Behind the Story
Ledesma is known for works such as “The Tunnel” (2011), “Sunod” (2019), and the short film “The Kapre.” He considers “Outside” his most personal project, drawing inspiration from his childhood in Negros and his sense of isolation during the pandemic.
These experiences helped shape the film’s themes of confinement, fear, and emotional strain.
Release Date and Cast
“Outside” will premiere on Netflix on October 17. The film features a strong supporting cast, including Enchong Dee and Joel Torre, adding depth to this character-driven horror story.
As anticipation builds, the film promises a tense and emotionally charged take on survival during a zombie outbreak.
Prepare for a chilling experience when “Outside” arrives on Netflix this October.
