MANILA — Content creation is more than a trend in today’s ever-evolving social media landscape; it offers a livelihood to many creative individuals. Charlize Ruth Reyes, better known as Charuth, exemplifies this reality. At just 24 years old, this artist and content creator from Quezon City has garnered over 3.2 million followers on TikTok with her engaging and relatable videos.

Balancing Multiple Roles
Charuth wears many hats. In addition to her role as a TikTok creator, she is set to star in the upcoming Philippine adaptation of the popular Korean drama “Shining Inheritance.” She also manages her own coffee shop, Pedal Cafe.
Charuth explained her strategy for content creation across different platforms. “For TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram, the content is almost the same. However, YouTube is different with its longer form and more storytelling. I’m stricter with TikTok since I’ve started a specific branding there, focusing on skit-type content,” she said.

Incorporating Personal Experiences
In developing new ideas, Charuth draws on her personal experiences. She finds that creating comedy content comes naturally due to her close relationships with comedy writers.
“Observing my surroundings and incorporating personal experiences helps a lot. I prefer creating content based on experiences I’ve actually lived through. For instance, I don’t often touch on office-related topics because I’ve never worked in an office environment,” Charuth noted.
Managing Creative Burnout
Charuth also addresses the challenge of creative burnout by not pushing herself too hard. “Feeling burnt out is normal, and I don’t force myself to come up with new ideas every day. If I need a break, I take it. Sometimes a day off is necessary for my mind to reset,” she added.

Engaging with Fans
Despite her popularity, Charuth makes an effort to interact with her followers, particularly in the comment section. She values the feedback and suggestions from her audience.
Reflecting on her first successful video, Charuth recalled, “It was a fun skit about a student on vacation who had to turn on their camera for a teacher. It was relevant at the time because it resonated with many of my classmates who were also experiencing online classes.”
Monetizing Content and Brand Collaborations
Charuth’s approach to monetizing content and collaborating with brands is also a key factor in her high engagement levels. “When I transitioned to full-time content creation, I sought help from comedy writers because handling it alone long-term would be challenging. Asking for help lightens the workload and allows you to learn from others,” she shared.
“For brand partnerships, I ensure that the collaboration aligns with the type of content I’m comfortable creating and is also a compromise with the brand’s needs. If our ideas match, I’m on board. If not, I move on because there are many other content creators who might be a better fit for the brand’s vision,” she explained.

The Importance of Self-Knowledge and Enjoyment
Charuth concluded by emphasizing the importance of knowing oneself as a creator and finding joy in the work. “As long as you’re happy with what you’re doing and responsible in your actions, keep going! Never stop learning,” Charuth advised.
This approach not only defines Charuth’s success but also highlights the evolving nature of content creation and social media engagement.
