Ballet Philippines presented a reimagined full-length ballet of Peter Pan at The Theatre at Solaire in Manila from December 6 to 8, 2024. It marked the company’s first staging of the story since 2015, and offered families and ballet audiences a fresh holiday experience based on J.M. Barrie’s classic tale.
The staging was led by artistic director Mikhail “Misha” Martynyuk, who created an original libretto and choreography for this adaptation. “I specifically didn’t look at Peter Pan from another company or past productions,” Martynyuk said. “I read the book, studied places and details, then I made a draft.” Costumes were designed by Eleanora Martynyuk, the company’s emerging costume designer.
For this limited engagement, the theatre was located at The Theatre at Solaire, 1 Asean Avenue, Entertainment City, Parañaque City. Tickets for the performances were available through the Ballet Philippines website and TicketWorld, with prices ranging from approximately ₱618 for balcony seats to ₱3,090 for orchestra center seats.
The production featured five different casts, one for each of the run’s five shows, giving audiences a distinct pairing of principal dancers at every performance. Jemima Reyes played Wendy across the run, opposite principal dancer Ian Ocampo as Peter Pan, while John and Michael Darling were played by Emerson and Eduardson Evangelio.
Ballet Philippines president Kathleen Liechtenstein said the production’s message tied naturally to the holiday season. “The positivity of the story relates to the celebration of Christmas and family, because this is the time that the family must come together,” she said. The production emphasized the enduring power of imagination and family bonds, positioning the ballet as a joyful, family-friendly holiday offering.
