Rakuten Viber has officially launched its digital payment service, Viber Pay, in the Philippines as of April 2026. This new feature allows Filipino users to send and receive money securely within the messaging application they use every day. By merging daily communication with financial tools, the platform aims to provide a more convenient experience for millions of local users.
The setup process for Viber Pay is straightforward and user-friendly. Users only need to update their mobile application to the latest version to see the new “Pay” tab on their dashboard.

Key features available at launch include instant peer-to-peer transfers to send money to friends and family without transaction fees. Users can also utilize flexible wallet top-ups through GCash, Maya, local bank transfers, or over-the-counter payment centers. For commerce, the InstaPay QR integration allows users to pay local merchants instantly by scanning supported QR codes directly inside the chat screen.
To support the growing digital economy, the Philippines has been selected as the very first global market to feature Viber Business Wallets. This unique tool allows micro-entrepreneurs and small business owners to accept payments from customers while keeping their personal and business funds completely separate.

Account tiers and transaction limits are structured based on verification status. Personal accounts are eligible for a monthly transaction limit of ₱100,000 after completing the identity verification process, while business accounts can go up to ₱500,000 to accommodate regular commercial transactions.
Security and data protection are fundamental pillars of this new financial service. To prevent fraud, users must complete a rigorous identity check. This verification process requires uploading a valid government-issued ID alongside a live selfie facial scan. For daily access, users can enable an independent PIN code or use biometric authentication like fingerprint or facial recognition. To ensure compliant and secure operations, Rakuten Viber has partnered with Paynamics Technologies, a trusted and fully licensed local payment gateway provider in the Philippines.

According to Ritesh Shah, Vice President of FinTech at Rakuten Viber, this launch directly reflects the daily habits of Filipino consumers. “People in the Philippines already trust Viber as their primary tool for daily communication. Now, they can manage their financial transactions with the exact same ease, speed, and security,” Shah explained.
This integration represents a natural evolution for modern messaging apps by bringing communication and commerce together. Whether you are splitting a lunch bill, sending allowances to family members, or collecting payments from business clients, the entire process now happens smoothly without switching apps.
