John Amores, NorthPort guard, has been suspended from the upcoming PBA Commissioner’s Cup due to his involvement in a shooting incident in Laguna. The suspension was formally announced on October 11 by PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial and legal counsel Atty. Ogie Narvasa, citing “conduct detrimental to the league.” The disciplinary action means Amores will miss all official games in the next conference without pay, regardless of the outcome of his ongoing legal case.

Suspension for Misconduct
The PBA emphasized that Amores must address his behavior before being allowed to return. This action underscores the league’s commitment to upholding standards and player conduct.

Required Counseling for John Amores
As part of his suspension, Amores is required to undergo anger management counseling through a PBA-approved program. He must obtain clearance from his counselor and the league before he can return to play. The counseling must continue until professionals deem it complete.

Participation in Team Activities
Despite the suspension, Amores is permitted to practice with NorthPort and join team activities. He will continue to receive part of his salary, as maintaining his connection with the team is considered helpful for his rehabilitation and personal growth.

PBA’s Stance Against Violence
Commissioner Marcial reiterated that both the PBA and NorthPort Batang Pier strictly oppose any form of violence, whether on or off the court. He also highlighted the importance of responsible gun ownership among players to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Incident in Laguna
The incident took place in September during a basketball game involving Amores and his brother in Brgy. Salac, Lumban, Laguna. The altercation escalated into a shooting, resulting in both being charged with attempted homicide. They were released after posting bail. The case is still pending in court.
