Rennes beat Lyon 3-0 at Roazhon Park on August 18, 2024, in a dominant opening-weekend win in Ligue 1.

Benjamin Bourigeaud opened the scoring in the 19th minute, finishing a move started by Ludovic Blas. Amine Gouiri doubled the lead two minutes later, and Rennes carried a 2-0 lead into halftime.

Lyon pushed for a way back into the match and were awarded a penalty in the second half, but Georges Mikautadze missed the spot kick, leaving the visitors empty-handed.

Rennes put the result beyond doubt in stoppage time. Substitute Henrik Meister scored in the first minute of injury time, finishing off a fast break started by Gouiri, to make it 3-0.

The result opened Rennes’ season with a statement win at home, while Lyon began their campaign with a defeat.
