Paris Saint-Germain closed out their 2024-25 Ligue 1 title campaign with a 4-1 win over Montpellier on May 10, 2025. Facing a Montpellier side already relegated to Ligue 2, PSG fielded their youngest-ever starting lineup in the French top flight, with an average age of just 21 years and 251 days. Gonçalo Ramos scored a hat-trick and teenager Senny Mayulu opened the scoring, in a game PSG played three days after eliminating Arsenal in the Champions League semifinal.
Having already wrapped up the title, PSG had nothing left to play for, and manager Luis Enrique used the match to test his squad depth. Montpellier, already mathematically relegated, sat at 25 losses in 33 matches with 76 goals conceded — both single-season club records in Ligue 1.
Luis Enrique made nine changes from the side that beat Arsenal, keeping only two regular starters in the lineup. PSG set up in a fluid 4-3-3 that shifted into a 4-2-3-1 out of possession, pressing high and using width to stretch Montpellier’s back line.
Senny Mayulu broke the deadlock in the 44th minute, rifling a shot into the roof of the net from the edge of the box after linking up with Warren Zaïre-Emery — the first time in Ligue 1 that two players born in 2006 or later combined for a goal.
Ramos took over in the second half. He doubled PSG’s lead four minutes after the restart, turning in Ibrahim Mbaye’s cross with the help of a deflection. He made it 3-0 from the penalty spot in the 59th minute after Désiré Doué was fouled in the box. Montpellier pulled one back through Tanguy Coulibaly in the 64th minute, who cut inside and beat the goalkeeper at his near post. Ramos answered a minute later, controlling a long ball from goalkeeper Arnau Tenas before turning his marker and driving a shot in off the crossbar from distance to complete his hat-trick and make it 4-1.
It was Ramos’s first career hat-trick in a top-flight league, with either Benfica or PSG, and his 50th Ligue 1 appearance. “It’s great. It’s not easy to score four goals here, away from home,” Ramos said after the match. “We’re very happy, and now it’s time to make the most of it. It’s always good to score a goal, but to score three is amazing.”
Luis Enrique praised Mayulu afterward as well. “I like him a lot. I was delighted that he stayed,” he said. “It’s tough to be a starter at PSG, especially in this PSG team. He’s important for the club’s future — for his technical ability, physical attributes, and versatility.”
The win extended PSG’s dominance in the fixture: they have now won 12 straight Ligue 1 meetings with Montpellier, scoring close to four goals per game in that run, with their last non-win against the club coming in April 2019.
