MANILA — Stephen Holt is entering his second year in the PBA with fresh enthusiasm and determination. After a notable trade from TerraFirma Dyip to Barangay Ginebra San Miguel last month, Holt is excited to join one of the league’s most iconic teams. At the PBA Season 49 Media Day in Pasay, he shared how he first found out about the trade.
Learning About the Trade
“I actually found out just like everyone else — through the website,” Holt said with a smile. “I had just landed back in Manila when I saw the news. It was a surprise, but I quickly embraced it as a new and exciting chapter.”
Adjusting to Ginebra’s Team Culture
Though only a few weeks into his stint with Ginebra, Holt is already getting comfortable with Coach Tim Cone’s system. He’s been involved in practice games, including a standout showing against the New Taipei Kings in Macau.
“It’s been a great experience so far. Ginebra has a strong culture, backed by veteran players and staff. They’ve done a great job bringing me into the Triangle Offense, and I’m confident I can contribute well,” he commented.
Fond Memories of TerraFirma
Despite moving on, Holt cherishes what he achieved with TerraFirma.
“We had a productive off-season there, and last year was truly a turning point for me,” he reflected. “The friendships I made, especially with Juami Tiongson, Javi Gomez De Liaño, and Isaac Go, are very meaningful. We still keep in touch regularly, and those bonds will stay with me.”
TerraFirma’s Growth and Impact
Looking back, Holt acknowledged TerraFirma’s progress over the seasons.
“We took things step-by-step. We aimed to reach the playoffs in the All-Filipino Conference and showed real toughness in the import-laden conference,” he noted. “While we didn’t clinch a title, we proved we could compete with the best.”
Focused on Bringing a Championship to Ginebra
With his new chapter, Holt is focused on one thing: winning titles with Ginebra.
“The expectations here are high, and with good reason,” Holt said determinedly. “Wearing the Ginebra jersey means aiming for championships. I’m ready to work hard, make sacrifices, and do whatever it takes. I haven’t won a title since 2017, and I’m hungry for this opportunity.”
Looking Ahead with Confidence
As the season approaches, Holt remains optimistic about what lies ahead.
“We’re still building chemistry with the new group, but I truly believe we have what it takes for a strong championship run. I’m here to give my best and see where this journey takes us.”
