The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) is entering a new era with the launch of its first permanent home—an advanced, multi-purpose sports venue developed in partnership with Akari Lighting and Technology Corp. The landmark project, set to begin construction by late 2025, is a defining step in transforming the landscape of Philippine university athletics.

Building a Lasting Home for Athletes
For many years, the UAAP operated without a centralized base, holding events and offices across member schools. The creation of a dedicated venue aims to bring long-term stability and unity to the league.
According to Executive Director Atty. Rene “Rebo” Saguisag Jr., the development is more than an infrastructure milestone.
“This is their home—a place where they can compete, grow, and thrive,” Saguisag said, underscoring how consistency enhances both athletic performance and community identity.
By centralizing training areas, administrative offices, and competition spaces, the UAAP fosters a stronger environment for athlete development and fan engagement.
Design and Facilities
The upcoming UAAP arena combines modern engineering with functional versatility. Designed to host multiple sports and large-scale events, it is envisioned as a facility that blends competition, community, and innovation in one shared space.
Versatile and Modern Event Spaces
The new complex will host major indoor sports such as basketball, volleyball, and badminton, supporting both collegiate and high-school divisions.
Highlights of the complex include:
- Seating for 6,000 to 7,000 spectators, adaptable for sporting events, concerts, or conventions.
- High-quality courts, locker facilities, and training zones adhering to international standards.
- Availability for leagues such as the PBA, PVL, and NCAA, making it a unifying hub for the broader sports community.
Prime Location and Sustainable Design
Beyond its function as a sporting venue, the arena was carefully planned to enhance accessibility and environmental responsibility.
Located along E. Rodriguez Avenue in Pasig City, the site offers convenient access to Metro Manila’s academic districts.
The UAAP is working with ASYA Design Partner to deliver a venue that balances performance excellence with audience comfort—featuring advanced lighting, energy-efficient cooling, and well-planned parking layouts. These design choices align with the league’s vision of sustainability and athlete well-being.

Akari’s Role and Vision for Innovation
Behind this ambitious project stands Akari Lighting and Technology Corp., a brand synonymous with smart design and sustainability. More than just a sponsor, Akari serves as a collaborative force driving the arena’s technological backbone.
Akari President Christopher Tiu, a former UAAP basketball standout, shared the company’s deeper motivation for involvement.
“We believe sports build character and community. Supporting the UAAP is our way of inspiring future champions.”
By integrating state-of-the-art lighting and energy-efficient systems, Akari ensures that the arena showcases the perfect synergy between modern innovation and national sports development.
A New Chapter for Philippine Athletics
The UAAP’s new home represents more than infrastructure—it embodies the future of collegiate competition and community spirit. Construction is expected to begin following the finalization of plans with ASYA Design Partner, with the goal of opening in time for UAAP Season 90.
While accessibility may initially present challenges, ongoing infrastructure projects across Metro Manila are expected to improve travel efficiency, similar to the early years of the Mall of Asia Arena.
When completed, the new facility will serve as a proud symbol of collaboration, dedication, and the unyielding passion that defines Philippine sports.
